The following is an El Terreno newsletter published on 22nd November 2022

It's been a whirlwind month here in Atandahua with a host of exciting projects underway, check them out below!
Karina, Liam and I also took a trip to the Amazon to take inspiration from the work at Yachana Foundation, before my mother arrived to meet her grandson 😊
Enjoy this month's newsletter!

¡A Football Tournament to Rival the World Cup!

Throughout November we welcomed Eddy 'The Rooster' Tell, Frenchman travelling throughout South America on using sport to educate people on the importance of environmental sustainability.
He joined us at El Terreno for 5 weeks in which he delivered tree-planting workshops and football matches in 5 communities, which climaxed in a football tournament with over 100 children present!

Congratulations to all the teams who participated and a massive thanks to Eddy for bringing people together for this positive cause. Photos and video to come in due course!

Community Composting

As part of their Sustainable Agriculture and Ecology Internship, Kate (Zimbabwe) and Sameer (Canada) have been learning about composting & organic fertiliser with the local community.
These efforts to apply more sustainable farming techniques not only improve the soil and avoid river contamination, it's also up to 20 times cheaper than using chemicals - which makes a huge difference to low-income farmers in the region.

Do you want to develop your professional skills and make a meaningful difference in new cultures and surroundings? Consider an internship at in the Ecuadorian Andes or a donation to our community fund to provide more activities like this.

Cultural Perseveration Documentary Gets Underway

Two anthropologists from Italy & Scotland alongside an English film maker have been travelling from the Andes to the Amazon having thought-provoking discussions with indigenous leaders on the importance of the preservation of indigenous culture and the challenges they face.

The documentary, planned for release next year, draws many perspectives from different figures in these times of cultural and environmental struggle.

Another Brick in the Wall

We were also fortunate to receive the presence of Iva (an architect from Croatia) and her partner Fiete (a builder from Germany) on the continued building project at El Terreno.
Over 5 weeks, they were responsible for advancing the adobe walls, working alongside the local builders and our architect.

If you've got professional skills in building, gardening, coordination or film-making, check out our volunteering programme here in the heart of the Ecuadorian Andes.
