The following is an El Terreno newsletter published on 4th August 2024

We are in the height of summer and the interns have been working on some hot projects in the last couple of months!
Since finishing our new building and reactivating programmes, it's been great to see projects maturing as we build on some great collaborative work with other local stakeholders.
We have spaces open in September, so if you've been thinking of joining us, now's a great time!

"La Gran Minga"
You may remember from an earlier newsletter, news of our successful 'MINGA' (community work day), in collaboration with 3 communities, local government and NGOs to plant 15,000 trees to protect local water sources.
Well, with help from our Journalism & Multimedia mentor, Solange Yépez, we are proud to share this short documentary of the day, featuring interviews with many of the key stakeholders involved!
Helping to protect these critical water sources to ensure universal access to clean and reliable water is one of the cornerstone activities we are involved in.
If you're keen on gaining real-world experience in ecology and community water projects, why not learn research our internships programmes and consider joining us in our mission!

Addressing Prevalent Gender Equality & Reproductive Health Issues

Women in rural communities surrounding face many obstacles. When conventional gender roles combine with high teenage pregnancy rates (26%), many girls drop out of school and are expected to look after the home and family for the rest of their lives.
Even for the ones who are lucky enough to complete their education, it's unlikely that they have the money and family support to attend university. Combined with systematic and domestic violence, opportunities for women are severely limited.
Despite our desire to make a positive change in this are, we have struggled to make an impact on this delicate topic - until now.
This summer we were privileged to receive 5 interns from around the world to help us address the issues of Gender Inequality and Teenage Reproductive Health. In over 2 months of research and pilot projects, they have presented their findings in these presentations.
It's been an inspiring time and a topic that we will be expanding into the future. So if you're interested in supporting gender equality in low-income communities, why not make a donation or join us as an intern to continue this important work?
